How a distance session works

Reiki is a Japanese practice of channeling universal life force energy. The word joins rei, often translated as universal or spiritual, and ki, life force energy. Distance Reiki is Reiki sent from one place to another, so you don't need to be on a call or in the same room.

Here is what happens, start to finish. The candle in these pictures is my timer: it burns for twenty minutes, and when it goes out, the session is done.

  1. You book a time

Pick a time and answer a few short questions. Most are optional. For the focus, a few words is enough, like "my dad" or "the move in 2015." You can also leave it blank.

  2. I let you know I'm starting

When I begin, I'll text you: "I'm starting your session now. If you'd like me to stop at any point, just text 'stop.'" You don't need to reply, and you don't need a reason to stop.

  3. I send you Reiki

I write your focus on a small piece of paper and set it beside me. Then, for twenty minutes, I send Reiki to you and to what you chose to bring. I light a twenty-minute candle to keep time.

  4. You rest, or go about your day

Some people lie down. Some keep working. Both are fine. If you want to stop at any point, text me "stop."

  5. I let you know it's done

When the candle is out, I'll text you, along with a short note about what I noticed, in plain words. I won't tell you what anything means.

  6. Your candle video, if you asked for one

I'll send a private link to the full twenty minutes. The link stays up for 30 days. It's only for you. I never post client sessions anywhere. The paper with your focus on it is burned, by the candle during the session or by me afterward. I don't keep it.

What you might notice

Some people feel warmth or calm. Some feel tired. Some don't notice anything. All of that is okay.

Sometimes feelings come up during or after a session. If something heavy comes up, be gentle with yourself. Drink some water and rest if you can. Reach out to your therapist or someone you trust, or call or text 988 if you need support.

Sessions for animals

I also send distance Reiki to animals. Sessions work the same way, with two differences.

Two yeses

You book as the animal's caregiver, or with their caregiver's permission. Then your animal gets a say. When I begin, I quietly offer Reiki and let them choose. I never force it.

You're my eyes

If you can, spend a few minutes with your animal during the session. You don't need to hold them or keep them still. Let them rest, wander, or nap. Moving around is normal. If they seem upset or can't settle, text me "stop."

They may be welcoming it

Settling down, slow blinks, a deep sigh, falling asleep, leaning in, or turning a hip or shoulder toward you.

They may not want it right now

Leaving again and again, pacing, a tense body, flattened ears, or other signs of stress you recognize in them.

Reiki isn't veterinary care, and it doesn't replace it. If your animal is sick, hurt, or in distress, contact your vet first.

Common questions

Does distance Reiki work?

Many people find it relaxing. Research on Reiki is limited, and I can't promise any result. I can promise twenty quiet, focused minutes, sent with care. Read what the research says.

Can Reiki replace therapy?

No. Reiki is a gentle relaxation practice. It isn't medical or mental health care. It can sit alongside therapy, but it can't stand in for it.

Will you send Reiki to the other person in my relationship?

No. I only send Reiki to the person who asked for it. In a relationship session, Reiki goes to you and your side of things.

Can I book a session for someone else?

Yes, as a gift code. The person you give it to books their own session when they're ready, so it's always their choice. I won't share anything about their session with you.

Can you send Reiki to my pet?

Yes, if you're their caregiver. Your animal still gets a say. See how animal sessions work.

Is what I share private?

Yes. What you share stays between us. I keep only what I need to schedule and text you, and I delete session notes after 30 days.

Can a session focus on an object, my home, or something coming up?

Yes. You can bring an object that's yours, a home or space you live in or are responsible for, or something coming up, like an interview or a move. Reiki goes to the object or space, not to the people in it. For something coming up, it goes to you and how you'll meet it. Read more about objects and spaces or something coming up.

What if I'm not sure what to focus on?

That's okay. You can choose "I'm not sure yet" when you book.
