I’m based in Durham, and I offer distance Reiki. That means you don’t need to live nearby to book a session with me. But if you’re in Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, or anywhere else in the Triangle, you might also be wondering about in-person Reiki, or how to find someone local.
Here’s a plain guide.
Can I get Reiki in Durham?
Yes, two ways:
- Distance Reiki, which is what I offer. I send Reiki from Durham for twenty minutes, and you can be at home, at work, or anywhere else. There’s no call and no travel.
- In-person Reiki, where you lie down, fully clothed, and a practitioner rests their hands lightly on or just above you. I don’t offer in-person sessions right now, but there are good options nearby (see below).
Both are the same practice. Some people prefer distance because there’s no touch, no drive, and no one in the room. Others like being with a practitioner in person. Neither is better. It’s whatever feels right to you.
How does distance Reiki work from Durham?
It works the same whether you’re two miles away or two thousand.
- You book a time and choose a focus: a relationship, a moment from your past, something you carry from your family, an object, your home, or something coming up.
- When I begin, I text you.
- For twenty minutes, you rest or go about your day.
- When I’m done, I text you a short note about what I noticed.
Distance Reiki doesn’t depend on where you are.
Where can I get in-person Reiki in the Triangle?
My teacher, Deborah Dixon of Subtle Wellness, offers in-person Reiki sessions in Chapel Hill and Holly Springs. She also offers distance sessions, longer sessions, animal Reiki, and Reiki classes. She’s been teaching and practicing for many years, and she’s the one who trained me.

Megan Dahlia of Dahlia Energetics offers in-person Reiki at her studio in Durham, and in-home sessions across Raleigh-Durham. She also teaches Reiki, through Master Teacher. I’ve been a client of hers, and she’s exceptional.
If you’re not sure which is right for you, I’m glad to help you think it through.
Can I learn Reiki in the Triangle?
Yes. Deborah teaches Usui Reiki classes, including the Level 2 course I took through Duke Health. If you’re curious about learning Reiki for yourself, her classes page is a good place to start.
How do I choose a Reiki practitioner near me?
Whether you’re in Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Cary, or anywhere else, a few questions can help:
- Who taught you, and what level are you? A good practitioner is glad to tell you.
- Do you ask before sending Reiki? Consent should always come first.
- Will you tell me what you noticed, without telling me what it means? Be careful with anyone who diagnoses or interprets.
- Do you make health claims? Reiki is a relaxation practice, not medical care. A careful practitioner won’t promise to heal or treat anything.
- How do you handle what I share? Your information should be kept private and kept only as long as needed.
Is Reiki in Durham different from Reiki anywhere else?
Not really. Reiki is a Japanese practice, and practitioners everywhere learn it through a lineage of teachers. What does vary is each practitioner’s training, style, and care. That’s worth paying more attention to than location.
